Manchester United and the soccer world will say goodbye to Sir Alex Ferguson when his Premier League champions take on the Baggies at the Hawthorns on May 19.
Yet West Bromwich Albion fans hoping to catch the sell-out game are seeing red after tickets went on sale on one internet site for up to £600 – more than 15 times the usual cost.
But seats for the final match of the season are selling for anywhere between £100 and £2,500 on the viagogo website, an official online ticket marketplace for supporters.
Yet a ticket for a Category A game like Manchester United would normally cost £39, according to the Baggies website.
Steve Roest, head of European Business Development at viagogo, said: "Season ticket holders can't go to every match and, as the official ticket marketplace of West Bromwich Albion FC, we help them recoup some of their money by listing the tickets they cannot use.
"If people list their tickets for extortionate prices, they rarely sell, and we often see that they come down in price."
Fans worried for their safety are also voicing disquiet about the potential for violence if Manchester United fans are buying West Brom tickets.
A West Brom spokesman said: "Tickets for the final game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday, May 19 have sold out from the club's box office.
"Viagogo is the official ticket marketplace for the vast majority of Barclays Premier League clubs and allows season ticket holders to sell their seat to another fan when they cannot make a game.
"Up to 40 West Bromwich Albion season ticket holders per match have sold their seats on Viagogo this season - and the Manchester United game is no exception.
"It is at season ticket holders' discretion how much they sell their seats for – but we would urge fans to be considerate in their pricing.
