Ferguson defended Van Persie's recent report, insisting there clearly was nothing strange in regards to a striker going through a dry spell. "Our three forward people had 54 goals between them. For many strikers, and I was one myself, you undergo spells when you're not scoring and thinking you will never get a goal," said the United manager. "Then when you are rating you never think you're going to miss. It was a significant goal and there have been several things about it. "Robin did really good work from Wayne's move to get to the punishment. Then the ball moved off the place two or three times and he showed composure to settle herself down and report an ideal penalty - low, hard and to the corner." Ferguson also paid homage to his side's character while they acquired hard, windy conditions to go 15 things apparent of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
